Why Samyang Buldak Noodles?
In 2011, the ramen manufacturer Samyang decided to launch a ramen product with a Buldak flavor: “Samyang Buldak”. It is now one of Samyang's best-selling products. In your box you will find the carbonara version of these noodles: it combines the Buldak flavor with a cheesy and creamy carbonara sauce, which makes for a great flavor combination!
Caution: Extreme spiciness of Samyang Buldak noodles – Fire Noodle Challenge
Warning: Samyang's Buldak noodles are among the hottest instant noodles in the world. They even became a viral phenomenon on YouTube thanks to the "Fire Noodle Challenge": As part of this challenge, you have to eat a full bowl of "Fire Noodles" in front of the camera without giving in to the spiciness.
If you don't like spicy dishes, please be careful: you can, for example, simply use less sauce, then it will be less spicy. Alternatively, you can try adding a slice of cheddar or mozzarella to the ramen after cooking. Koreans also like to eat pickles between meals, which can also reduce the spiciness a little.
Samyang Buldak Noodles Origin: Fiery spiciness and the Fire Noodle Challenge
Buldak is a combination of the Korean words bul (fire) and dak (chicken): it means a fiery, spicy chicken dish. Buldak was particularly popular in Korea in the 2000s, and there were many Buldak restaurants back then. In the years that followed, this type of ramen went out of fashion, which is why there aren't that many of these restaurants anymore, but you can still find some in Korea: 홍초불닭 (Hongcho Buldak), for example, is a chain of such restaurants.
