Bubble tea is traditionally tea with milk, to which tapioca pearls are added. The small black balls are made from tapioca starch, which is extracted from the root of the cassava plant. The idea originated in Taiwan in the 1980s. From there, pearl milk tea conquered Asia and then the West. The first bubble tea was offered in Germany in 2009.
In addition to the original version with milk tea and tapioca bubbles, there are countless other bubble tea creations. Various hot or cold teas are combined with pearls in different flavors. So-called popping boba pearls are particularly popular during the warm season. The colorful jelly balls are not made from tapioca, but from seaweed starch and filled with flavorful syrup. The name "popping" boba refers to the fact that the pearls burst in the mouth when you bite into them.
So that you can get to know the cult drink from Taiwan in as many variations as possible, we have put together a set with three bubble tea DIY kits for you!
